Maertz Technical Consulting FAQ's

Do I need a Web Developer? This guy I know said he'd do it.
This is entirely up to you. No, you don't "need" us to make your site. However, you will generally find that you get what you pay for. Large developer firms will give you a large site and a large bill. We specialize in small-medium businesses. Both the site and associated costs will be reflective of that. Likewise, your friend who makes your site for the cost of a pizza and a beer will probably provide the same. There's nothing wrong with starting out that way, depending on what your goal is.

Do I need to hire a developer who is local?
Usually you do not have to. Content for the site, pictures, etc., can generally be sent through e-mail.

How much does a Web site cost?
Prices vary based on the amount of information, graphics design, and other features you would like. The sites on our Web Design samples page ran anywhere from $800 - $2000.

How long will it take?
Development time depends greatly on the size of your site, how many features you have, and our current client schedule. If your site is a time-sensitive priority, then we will work with you to pull in additional resources if necessary and when possible.

What can I use for my ".com" address?
There can only be a single specific .com, .net, etc. That is your only severe limitation. We will work with you to find a suitable available address.

What is an ISP, and do I need one?
Your ISP is your "Internet Service Provider". In other words, it is the company that allows you to access the Internet and your e-mail. You do not actually need to have one, but if you are going to have a Web site, then you really should have an e-mail address available for your clientele to reach you.

What is a "host"?
Your "host" is the company that keeps your files for your Web site so that people can see them. While we design and create your site, we do not "host" them. We will make recommendations based on your needs.

How do I get my site on search engines?
It can take a while to get your site listed on various search engines. We include an initial submission to many sites. If you desire better search results, then we will make recommendations for businesses that specialize in the submission process.

How do I get updates on my site?
We can offer you a base hourly price for providing updates, or if you have someone who can do it him/herself, then you can go that route. We will design your site so that you may eventually take over the update process even if you are not planning to do it today.
